7th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase

Here’s something to cheer about: 21 films, from beauty queen tales to political dramas, from topsy-turvy comedies to a musical celebration that will have you humming for days. This is the 7th annual SDAFF Spring Showcase, and it’s our biggest yet. As always, we’ve got box office hits like China’s "Soulmate", festival favorites like Hong Sang-soo’s "Yourself and Yours", and movies-of-the-moment like Justin Chon’s "Gook", which we will be screening two days before the 25th anniversary of the LA Uprising it depicts.

We’re also proud to continue our Sunday spotlights. Following 2015’s “Cinema Little Saigon” and 2016’s “China Now,” we are dedicating April 23 to our original curated series “Right to Resist: From 9066 to 2017”. The series will highlight stories of resistance to Japanese American incarceration during WWII and connecting them to stories of South Asian and Muslim Americans today. Screenings that day will be free for youth under 18.

While reasons to cheer have been few and far between in 2017, we continue to celebrate film artists – especially the documentarians – who shine lights on the contradictions of our world and nation, and on the aspirations of individuals who toil so they and others can live free.

You can find the list of the all the films screening here.
